We have led the effort to help permanently end homelessness in Northeast Los Angeles. We have been at the forefront of education and implementation of services in collaboration with local charities to fight homelessness.

Our Mission

As new interest continues to grow in neighborhoods throughout Northeast Los Angeles significant changes happen in our community; new businesses open, new parks and parklets are formed, streets are repaired, and houses remodeled as the value of real estate in NELA continues to soar. The economic revitalization within our community is noticeable and so are the number of people without housing.

The NELA Homeless Coalition is a voice for people whose needs are overlooked as funding for residential and commercial projects gets distributed to further beautify our neighborhood.

The coalition is comprised residents, community leaders, stakeholders, businesses, faith-based groups, community groups, families, individuals, and of course our neighbors experiencing homelessness.

The NELA Coalition is currently headed by      Shaun Newton & Stephen MoramarcO

“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”
— Ralph Waldo Emerson

What We've Achieved

  • Organized a sleeping bag drive in conjunction with Councilman Jose Huizar to benefit Recycled Resources.
  • Continued community outreach efforts to benefit the homeless.
  • Provide ongoing sponsorship and mentorship opportunities to form a tighter community bond with our homeless neighbors.
