Here's just a small sampling of the projects we've been a part of:
FEEDING THE 5000
Feeding the 5000 is an event to shine a light on the global food waste scandal, champion the delicious solutions and catalyse the global movement. At each event, they serve up a delicious communal feast for 5000 people made entirely out of food that would otherwise have been wasted. Thus, bringing together a coalition of organisations that offer the solutions to food waste, raising the issue up the political agenda and inspiring new local initiatives.
LAHSA & THE Homeless count
Mandated by the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and coordinated locally by LAHSA, the Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count is the largest homeless census count in the nation. Over the course of three days and nights, thousands of trained volunteers fan out across the Los Angeles Continuum of Care (CoC) to determine how many homeless individuals and families there are in the region, identify their demographic characteristics and the locations where they reside. In January of 2017, NELA HC Volunteers canvassed the area of Northeast Los Angeles to do their part. This year we hope to gain as many volunteers as last year. Sign up at theycountwillyou.org/nela18
